Young Blood Association Seeks Stronger Blood Centres in Jammu
Dr. Satwant Singh Rissam submits memorandum to MP Sat Sharma seeking essential equipment and power backup

Jammu, 4th Sept: Dr. Satwant Singh Rissam, President of Young Blood Association, J&K, has urged the authorities to strengthen blood centres and blood storage centres functioning under the Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department in the Jammu region.
Dr. Rissam submitted a memorandum to Sat Sharma, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, highlighting the urgent need for essential equipment and infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient blood banking services.
The memorandum sought provision of water filter and RO systems, ID centrifuge and ID incubator machines, portable donor couches, blood storage refrigerators, HemoCue devices for haemoglobin estimation and blood bag carriers to maintain the cold chain during transportation.
The association has also emphasised the need for reliable power backup at blood storage centres, noting that some facilities currently lack adequate backup support. Dr. Rissam said power interruptions without backup could jeopardise blood preservation and patient safety.
He stressed that properly equipped blood centres are essential for emergency care, surgeries, maternal healthcare, trauma management and other life-saving medical requirements. According to the association, gaps in basic infrastructure can affect donor comfort, blood quality, storage safety and uninterrupted availability of blood for patients.
Young Blood Association has appealed to the concerned authorities to take the matter on priority and equip the centres with the required facilities. It said strengthening blood transfusion infrastructure would improve donor services, maintain quality standards and help save lives across the Jammu region.
