New Delhi, 23rd Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with CEOs and founders of Indian space startups, discussing the rapid expansion of the country’s private space industry, emerging technologies and opportunities to position India as a global hub for space innovation.

During the interaction, the Prime Minister said the opening of the space sector to private participation was based on creating confidence among entrepreneurs and ensuring policy consistency so that companies could take risks without fearing abrupt changes.

Several startup leaders highlighted the progress made since the private space sector was opened up. A CEO noted that the company had successfully launched India’s first private rocket carrying satellites and was preparing to scale up its launch frequency.

The Prime Minister emphasised the growing global interest in Indian space companies and said India should create an ecosystem capable of attracting talent from across the world.

He said India’s competitive costs, skilled workforce and entrepreneurial risk-taking capacity could help the country rapidly strengthen its position in the global space industry.

Global talent and investment
The Prime Minister said India should build an “aura” around its space sector so that people worldwide view the country as an attractive destination to build their careers and businesses.

He said Indian space startups and agencies could become a magnet for global talent, companies and investment, turning the country’s growing space capabilities into a major strategic strength.

Startup founders said professionals of Indian origin working in the US and Europe were increasingly interested in returning to India and contributing to the country’s space industry.

Emerging space technologies
The interaction also showcased a wide range of technologies being developed by Indian startups.

These included advanced rocket engines, global ground-station networks, satellite propulsion systems, space-debris removal technologies and satellite docking and refuelling systems.

One startup demonstrated plans for a robotic spacecraft capable of capturing defunct satellites and removing them from orbit. Another company said it was developing docking and refuelling technologies with the long-term vision of establishing fuel stations in space.

A founder also presented India’s first space-pharmaceutical startup, which aims to manufacture pharmaceutical products in space and bring them back to Earth.

Other entrepreneurs highlighted international contracts, satellite technologies and applications aimed at agriculture and other sectors.

The Prime Minister’s interaction comes amid the rapid expansion of India’s private space ecosystem, with startups increasingly developing indigenous technologies and attracting global customers and investment.

Modi encouraged the sector to continue pursuing ambitious goals and expand the application of space technologies, reinforcing the government’s vision of making India a leading global space power.
