Guwahati, 3rd July: A major cyber fraud has hit Health City Hospital, a private healthcare facility in Assam’s capital Guwahati, with cybercriminals allegedly siphoning off ₹4.41 crore in what authorities suspect to be a sophisticated hacking operation.

According to preliminary information, the attackers first compromised the hospital accountant’s computer, gaining access to sensitive financial and internal data. The cybercriminals allegedly misused the hospital owner’s identity and photograph to execute the fraud and facilitate the illegal transfer of funds.

Investigating agencies have launched a probe into the incident, with initial inputs indicating possible involvement of Chinese hackers. However, officials have not yet confirmed the origin of the cyberattack.

Cybersecurity experts are conducting a forensic examination to determine how the attackers infiltrated the hospital’s systems, accessed confidential information and diverted the funds.

The incident has once again highlighted the growing threat of cybercrime targeting critical institutions and underscored the need for robust cybersecurity infrastructure and greater cyber awareness among employees.
