New Delhi, 2nd Oct: The Department of Pharmaceuticals, along with its attached and subordinate organisations, has commenced Special Campaign 6 on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2, with a focus on scientific e-waste management, cleanliness, record management and the time-bound disposal of pending matters.

The campaign, which will continue until October 31, 2026, covers the Department and organisations including the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) and public sector undertakings.

The campaign follows a preparatory phase conducted from September 15 to 30, during which baseline targets were established, campaign sites identified and records inventoried.

Under the cleanliness component, 12,208 drives have been planned across organisational units and outstation offices. The initiative also seeks to create cleaner and more efficient workspaces through systematic removal of obsolete material and better management of records.

Focus on Scientific E-Waste
Scientific and compliant e-waste management is a major component of Special Campaign 6. The Department has identified 1,011 quantities of obsolete equipment for disposal through recyclers empanelled by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).

The identified material includes 602 IT and telecommunication equipment units, 196 consumer electrical, electronic and photovoltaic units, 53 large and small electrical appliances, five laboratory instruments and 154 other electronic assets and electrical tools.

The disposal process is aimed at ensuring safe segregation and handling of obsolete electronic material in accordance with applicable e-waste management requirements.

Pendency and Record Management
The campaign also focuses on reducing pending matters and improving administrative efficiency. Targets include the resolution of four Members of Parliament references, two Parliamentary Assurances, one Inter-Ministerial Cabinet proposal, 58 State Government references and two PMO references.

The Department has also identified 72 public grievances through CPGRAMS, 18 public grievance appeals and 20 Easing of Rules/Process items for action.

As part of record management, 2,716 physical files and 20 e-files are scheduled for review to improve documentation practices and optimise available office space.

The Department has stated that the campaign will focus on institutionalising cleanliness, scientific disposal of obsolete equipment, liquidation of pendency and improved workplace efficiency. Progress and best practices are to be recorded through the national SCDPM portal.
