New Delhi, 1st March: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday released the book “Tides of Time: Bharat’s History through Murals in Parliament”, authored by Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty, at Samvidhan Sadan in New Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice President said the murals in Parliament are not merely artistic creations but visual narratives that capture India’s long civilisational journey.
He described Bharat as the “mother of democracy”, highlighting that democratic traditions in India have been continuous, inclusive and deeply rooted in society, from ancient systems like Vaishali to southern governance models.
Praising the book, Radhakrishnan said it brings history alive through depictions of 124 mural panels, covering milestones from the Indus Valley Civilisation to the freedom movement and contributions of great thinkers and leaders.
He emphasised that Parliament embodies the spirit of democracy through dialogue, debate and dissent, but noted that such discussions must ultimately contribute to constructive decision-making in the national interest.
The Vice President also underlined the importance of preserving heritage alongside development, referring to the vision of “Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi” for a developed India by 2047.
Commending Sudha Murty, he said her work reflects a blend of wisdom, humility and commitment to public service, and helps connect people with India’s rich cultural and historical legacy.
Highlighting India’s unity in diversity, he said that despite differences in language, region and culture, the country remains united in its national purpose.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers and Members of Parliament.
