New Delhi, 16th April: The Delhi High Court administration has directed the city police to take down unauthorised recordings of court proceedings related to Arvind Kejriwal’s plea in the excise policy case.
The videos, which surfaced on social media, show Kejriwal arguing before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma during a hearing held on April 13. The High Court has instructed the Delhi Police to ensure their removal.
A senior court official said recording or sharing court proceedings without permission is strictly prohibited under the High Court’s rules governing virtual hearings.
A formal complaint has also been submitted to the Registrar General, alleging that the clips were deliberately recorded and circulated by various individuals, including political figures.
The complaint claims that such dissemination could misrepresent proceedings and influence public perception, potentially harming the judiciary’s image.
The complaint cites provisions under the Delhi High Court Rules for Video Conferencing, 2021, and the Electronic Evidence and Video Conferencing Rules, 2025, both of which bar unauthorised recording or publication of court proceedings.
Authorities noted that similar action had been taken in June 2024 in a comparable case.
Officials confirmed that steps are being initiated against those responsible for recording and sharing the clips across platforms.
The development comes amid heightened scrutiny over digital dissemination of sensitive judicial proceedings, with authorities emphasising the need to uphold the sanctity of the legal process.
