Bengaluru, 20th April: A major aviation disaster was narrowly averted after a Fly91 Airlines flight developed a technical fault mid-air, forcing it to remain airborne for nearly four hours before making a safe landing in Bengaluru.

The flight, IC3401, operated by a turboprop ATR aircraft, had departed from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport around 3 PM and was scheduled to land in Hubballi by 4:30 PM.

As the aircraft approached Hubballi, pilots detected a technical issue and aborted the landing, officials said. The plane continued to circle over parts of Karnataka, including Mundgod, Davanagere and Shivamogga, as crews worked to manage the situation.

Passengers onboard reportedly faced tense moments during the extended flight, with several gripped by fear as the aircraft remained in the air for hours. Eyewitness accounts suggested that some passengers broke down while others prayed.

Family members of passengers expressed anger, alleging a lack of communication from the airline during the incident. They claimed that no timely updates were provided as the situation unfolded.

After multiple attempts to stabilise the situation, the aircraft was diverted and safely landed at Kempegowda International Airport at around 7:30 PM.

Authorities are expected to investigate the technical fault, while the airline is yet to issue a detailed statement on the incident.
