Madhyamgram, 23rd April: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday expressed confidence that the BJP will win from Madhyamgram in West Bengal, a constituency held by the All India Trinamool Congress for the past two decades.

Addressing a rally in North 24 Parganas district, Shah said the BJP has fielded a strong candidate and is prepared to contest even in seats traditionally considered difficult.

He cited the record 91.78 per cent voter turnout in the first phase of polling as an indication of a political shift in the state, claiming it reflects growing support for change.

Shah also credited the Election Commission of India and security forces for ensuring peaceful voting, stating that the high turnout demonstrated voters were able to exercise their franchise freely.

Rejecting allegations of misuse of central forces, he said no such complaints had been formally raised by candidates.

The Home Minister pointed to the BJP’s rise in the state, from three seats in 2016 to 77 in 2021, asserting that the party has emerged as the principal challenger to the ruling Trinamool Congress.

He also expressed confidence that the BJP would form the government in the state.

Polling in Madhyamgram is scheduled for the second phase on April 29, with counting of votes on May 4.
