Somnath, 11th May: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday visited the Somnath Temple and described the 75th anniversary of the rebuilt temple’s inauguration as a milestone in Bharat’s civilisational journey.

The Prime Minister participated in the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav celebrations marking 75 years since the restored temple opened its doors to devotees.

Sharing his experience after offering prayers at the temple, Modi said he felt blessed to be present at the historic occasion.

“Jai Somnath! Feeling blessed to be here, when we are marking 75 years since the rebuilt Temple opened its doors for devotees,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.

PM Says Atmosphere Filled With Devotion
Modi said the energy and enthusiasm displayed by devotees along the temple route deeply moved him.

The Prime Minister said the occasion reminded him of the historic inauguration of the rebuilt temple by India’s first President Rajendra Prasad in 1951.

“I am reliving the very moment today that Dr Rajendra Prasad Ji must have experienced during the inauguration of the rebuilt temple,” Modi said.

He added that the devotional atmosphere created during the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav had infused “amazing energy” throughout the temple town.

The Prime Minister also observed that devotion could be experienced in every corner of Somnath during the celebrations.

Somnath Temple Marks 75 Years of Restoration
The Somnath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva, is regarded as a major symbol of India’s spiritual and civilisational heritage.

The Somnath Amrut Mahotsav is being organised to commemorate 75 years since the reconstructed temple was inaugurated after restoration efforts in post-Independence India.

As part of the celebrations, Modi is also scheduled to participate in religious rituals including Abhishek, Maha Pooja and Dhwaj Pooja at the temple complex.

Thousands of devotees gathered in Somnath to witness the ceremonies and participate in the anniversary celebrations.
