New Delhi, 29th May: The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises has strengthened India’s leadership role in BRICS economic cooperation by successfully convening the second SME Working Group Meeting under the BRICS Partnership on the New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR) framework.

The meeting, held on May 26 under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, focused on the theme “Enhancing Access to Technology for MSMEs” and brought together representatives from BRICS member countries to discuss innovation, technology adoption and workforce development for micro, small and medium enterprises.

According to the ministry, discussions centered on “Harnessing Innovations and Technology Commercialization for MSMEs” and “Skilling and Development of Industry-Ready Manpower for MSME Tech Adoption”.

India is leading the SME Working Group under the BRICS PartNIR initiative and plans to organise three SME Working Group meetings along with the inaugural BRICS MSME Forum during its chairship. The agenda will focus on access to finance, technology adoption and sustainability-oriented growth for MSMEs.

The meeting witnessed active participation from BRICS nations and served as a platform for sharing experiences, policy approaches and best practices related to MSME development.

Participants highlighted the critical role of MSMEs in driving economic growth, employment generation, innovation and inclusive development across BRICS economies.

Delegates emphasised the need for greater digital inclusion, stronger innovation ecosystems and improved technology readiness to help MSMEs integrate into regional and global value chains.

The discussions also underscored the importance of deeper cooperation among BRICS countries in areas such as technology access, innovation-driven growth and skill development.

Officials said the meeting enabled valuable policy exchanges among countries facing similar developmental challenges and reinforced a collective commitment to building resilient, inclusive and globally competitive MSME sectors.

The Ministry of MSME described the meeting as highly productive, noting that it generated important insights to support technology access and capacity-building initiatives for MSMEs across BRICS member nations.
