Born on October 12, 1935, in Chakur village in Maharashtra’s Latur district, Patil devoted decades to public service and parliamentary affairs. Patil was first elected to the Lok Sabha from the Latur constituency in 1980 and represented the constituency across several consecutive terms. He was unanimously elected Speaker of the 10th Lok Sabha, serving from July 10, 1991, to May 22, 1996.
During his tenure, Patil played a significant role in strengthening parliamentary oversight.
