New Delhi, 6th June: 
The President of India Droupadi Murmu has appointed six Additional Judges of the Bombay High Court as Permanent Judges, following consultation with the Chief Justice of India.

According to an official notification issued on Saturday, the appointments were made in exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India.

The judges appointed as Permanent Judges of the Bombay High Court are:

  • Justice Nivedita Prakash Mehta
  • Justice Prafulla Surendrakumar Khubalkar
  • Justice Ashwin Damodar Bhobe
  • Justice Rohit Wasudeo Joshi
  • Justice Advait Mahendra Sethna
  • Justice Pravin Sheshrao Patil

The appointments mark the elevation of the six Additional Judges to permanent positions in one of the country’s largest High Courts.

The notification stated that the appointments were made after the requisite consultation process with the Chief Justice of India, in accordance with constitutional provisions governing judicial appointments.

The Bombay High Court, one of India’s oldest and most prominent constitutional courts, exercises jurisdiction over Maharashtra, Goa, and the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

The elevation of the six judges is expected to strengthen the judicial capacity of the High Court and support the efficient disposal of cases.
