Imphal, 8th June: CRPF Director General G.P. Singh has directed security personnel deployed in Manipur to take firm and decisive action against armed miscreants, stressing that forces should not hesitate to respond appropriately while maintaining law and order in the violence-hit state.
The remarks came during his recent visit to Manipur to review the security situation amid continuing ethnic tensions that have persisted for nearly three years.
In a video from his interaction with security personnel that has gone viral on social media, Singh assured forces of institutional support for bona fide actions taken in the line of duty.
“If you don’t fire at miscreants, then why has the government given us so much ammunition? Till I am DG, all the bona fide action will be taken care of. You must do your duty with sincerity,” he said.
During the review, the CRPF chief instructed forces to neutralise armed miscreants operating in civilian areas and intensify efforts to restore normalcy.
To strengthen counterinsurgency operations, two battalions of the elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) have been deployed in the state. Officials said the specialised units will support ongoing operations against armed groups and help improve security in sensitive regions.
The security review involved Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Minister Y. Khemchand and Director General of Police Mukesh Singh. According to officials, a comprehensive roadmap has been prepared to restore peace and stability in the state.
Singh indicated that discussions at the highest levels of government project a significant improvement in the security environment within the next one to one-and-a-half years.
Manipur has witnessed prolonged ethnic violence resulting in the deaths of civilians and security personnel, besides large-scale displacement.
The latest incident occurred on Friday when unidentified gunmen allegedly killed three Kuki villagers, including a woman, and set fire to seven houses in Loibol Khullen village in Kangpokpi district.
Following the attack, security forces have intensified operations across vulnerable areas while authorities continue efforts to prevent further escalation and restore peace in the region.
