New Delhi, 28th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted India’s growing self-reliance in defence and aviation, citizen-led initiatives, environmental conservation and cultural heritage during the 135th episode of Mann Ki Baat, calling public participation the country’s greatest strength.
Referring to recent milestones, the Prime Minister said the induction of indigenous naval platforms, the maiden flight of the Made-in-India C-295 aircraft and the successful test of an indigenous long-range land-attack cruise missile reflected India’s rapid progress towards Atmanirbhar Bharat.
He thanked citizens for responding positively to his recent appeals amid the prevailing West Asia crisis, including avoiding unnecessary gold purchases, postponing foreign holidays, adopting carpooling and promoting chemical-free farming. Modi said these collective efforts demonstrated the power of public participation during challenging times.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the success of International Yoga Day celebrations, India’s dominance at the World Yogasana Championship, the role of social security schemes, conservation efforts for Meghalaya’s living root bridges, and grassroots initiatives in Assam, Madhya Pradesh and Nagaland.
Calling for greater support to local artisans ahead of Ganesh Utsav, Modi urged people to purchase clay idols made by Indian craftsmen instead of Plaster of Paris idols, saying the move would protect the environment while strengthening the “Vocal for Local” campaign.
He also stressed water conservation, scientific thinking over superstition, youth participation in sports, and the integration of modern technology with India’s traditional knowledge systems, urging citizens to continue contributing to nation-building through collective action.
