Welcoming Takaiichi on her first visit to India, Modi described the India-Japan partnership as one built on mutual trust and said the visit marked the beginning of a new chapter in the Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

The two leaders issued a joint statement on artificial intelligence and witnessed the signing of multiple agreements between Indian and Japanese institutions. Modi said Japan’s precision technology combined with India’s software capabilities would accelerate global AI innovation.

Modi announced an ambitious target of attracting 10 trillion yen in Japanese investment into India over the next decade and doubling the number of Japanese companies operating in the country. He noted that more than 100 business agreements signed over the past year are expected to bring investments exceeding $10 billion.

In the energy sector, both countries launched the India-Japan Bio-gas Initiative, which will support the establishment of 1,000 biogas and organic fertiliser plants in India. The two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation in green hydrogen, battery technologies and nuclear energy.

The leaders further launched the India-Japan Next Generation Mobility Partnership Framework to expand cooperation beyond the automobile sector into shipbuilding, aviation and logistics.

Emphasising strong people-to-people ties, Modi said both countries would enhance collaboration in skill development, talent mobility, education, research and start-ups.
