New Delhi, 8th July: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday reviewed the rain situation in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Jammu & Kashmir, speaking separately with the chief ministers of the three states and assuring them of all possible assistance from the Centre.

According to officials, Shah spoke with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to assess the impact of heavy rainfall and ongoing relief efforts.

In Maharashtra, torrential rain disrupted Mumbai’s suburban train services, while waterlogging and landslides continued to affect rail and road connectivity, including the Mumbai-Pune route. The Tulsi Lake, one of Mumbai’s seven water reservoirs, also overflowed following heavy rainfall.

In Gujarat, extremely heavy rainfall in Surat and neighbouring districts claimed at least five lives in rain-related incidents. More than 2,100 people were shifted to safer locations as floodwaters inundated several areas.

Meanwhile, flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall hit Thathri town in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, damaging houses, shops and vehicles. The Doda-Kishtwar highway was blocked due to mudslides and debris, affecting traffic in the region.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall in several affected areas, with authorities remaining on high alert.
