New Delhi, 9th July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed a large gathering of the Indian community at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, describing the diaspora as a “living bridge” between India and Australia and calling upon them to contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

In a special gesture, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese joined the community event. Prime Minister Modi thanked the Indian diaspora for the warm welcome and expressed appreciation for Mr. Albanese’s commitment to strengthening India-Australia relations and supporting the welfare of the Indian community.

Highlighting the rapid progress in bilateral ties over the past decade, the Prime Minister said the complementarities between the Indian and Australian economies have made the two countries natural partners in building a secure, prosperous and resilient future.

He praised the Indian community in Australia for preserving its cultural heritage while making valuable contributions to Australian society. He also noted that education has emerged as one of the strongest pillars of the bilateral relationship, with a large number of Indian students studying in Australia and Australian universities expanding their presence in India.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s sustained economic growth, policy reforms, digital transformation and next-generation infrastructure development. He said India is making significant progress in communication technology, semiconductors, smartphone manufacturing and defence exports under the “Make in India” initiative.

Stressing that India’s development journey is driven by democracy, talent, technology and innovation, the Prime Minister said the country seeks to grow together with its global partners. He urged members of the Indian diaspora to contribute their ideas, expertise and experience towards achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047.

The event brought together members of the Indian community, including students, professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, community leaders and representatives of cultural organisations. Australia is home to nearly one million people of Indian origin.
