Chandigarh, 17th July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid the foundation stone and dedicated to the nation development projects worth over ₹4,700 crore in Chandigarh, covering healthcare, education and road infrastructure.
Addressing a public gathering, the Prime Minister said the projects would strengthen healthcare services, educational facilities and connectivity across Chandigarh and neighbouring states. He inaugurated new facilities at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), including a Neuroscience Centre, Mother and Child Centre and Critical Care Hospital Block.
Modi said healthcare in India is no longer a privilege but is steadily becoming a right, highlighting the expansion of AIIMS, medical colleges, Ayushman Bharat infrastructure and digital health services across the country.
The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of cleanliness, describing it as a way of life, and praised Chandigarh residents for participating in the “Swachhta Se Swagat” campaign. He also lauded Padma awardee Inderjit Singh Sidhu for promoting civic cleanliness.
Highlighting education and infrastructure, Modi inaugurated a new hostel at Punjab Engineering College, laid the foundation for research scholar accommodation, and launched major road projects, including a six-lane greenfield highway linking IT City and Kurali.
Referring to recent transport initiatives, the Prime Minister also highlighted the launch of India’s first hydrogen-powered train, calling it a significant step towards clean and sustainable mobility.
