New Delhi, 22nd July: The Centre has directed app stores to remove unauthorised Battery Management System (BMS) mobile applications used for e-rickshaw batteries after reports that some apps enabled unauthorised remote control of vehicle batteries, posing risks to consumers.
The government said the removal order was issued on July 3, 2026, following reports of misuse of certain BMS applications.
Sharing the information in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada said the government has also established a nationwide integrated cybersecurity framework to strengthen digital resilience and safeguard citizens against cyber threats.
The framework includes the National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC) under the National Security Council Secretariat to coordinate cybersecurity efforts among various agencies, while the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) serves as the national agency for responding to cybersecurity incidents under the Information Technology Act, 2000.
The government also highlighted the role of the National Cyber Coordination Centre (NCCC), which monitors cyberspace to detect cyber threats and shares intelligence with relevant organisations, state governments and stakeholders for timely action.
To safeguard critical infrastructure, the Centre has established the National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC) under the Information Technology Act.
The government further noted that the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 provides a modern legal framework for protecting consumers in the digital and e-commerce ecosystem.
It added that the Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) project, implemented by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, continues to promote cyber hygiene and public awareness through dedicated online platforms aimed at improving digital safety across the country.
