President Murmu Celebrates Raksha Bandhan with Students
Students from 17 states and one UT join special celebration at Rashtrapati Bhavan
- President Murmu urged students to extend Raksha Bandhan values to environmental protection.

New Delhi, 28th Aug: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday celebrated Raksha Bandhan with school students from across the country at Rashtrapati Bhavan and urged them to extend the festival’s values of love, care and protection to the environment.
Addressing the students, the President said Raksha Bandhan represents a bond of love that can be shared with family members, friends and even trees. Expressing concern over the deteriorating environmental balance, she urged students to tie rakhis to plants and trees and contribute to their protection.
Murmu said students are the future of the country and called on them to make the resolve to plant and nurture trees a lifelong commitment.
A total of 122 participants, including 89 students and 32 teachers, took part in the special celebration. The participants represented 17 states, one Union Territory, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. Thirteen Children with Special Needs were also among the participants.
As part of their educational visit, the students visited the Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya on August 27. Following the programme at Rashtrapati Bhavan, they also took part in guided tours of Rashtrapati Bhavan and Amrit Udyan.
The students are scheduled to visit the “The Light and the Lotus: Relics of the Awakened One” exhibition at the Raipithora Cultural Complex. Their programme will also include visits to the National Science Centre, National War Memorial and India Gate on August 29.
