Chennai, 5th Sept: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan launched the India Valve Registry at India Valves 2026, a national academic meeting focused on advancing treatment of valvular and structural heart diseases, in Chennai on Friday.
Addressing cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, researchers and medical experts from India and abroad, the Vice President said the convergence of clinical expertise, scientific research, innovation and collaboration would strengthen efforts to improve patient care.
Radhakrishnan said advances in cardiovascular medicine have transformed the treatment of valvular and structural heart diseases, while stressing that the benefits of medical progress must remain inclusive and accessible. He said healthcare is a human right and should be available to everyone.
Describing the India Valve Registry as an important step, he said systematic recording of patient information, treatments and outcomes from heart valve interventions would help convert individual clinical experiences into collective medical knowledge.
The Vice President emphasised the need for India to generate its own clinical evidence to improve treatment outcomes for Indian patients. He said the registry would help doctors understand outcomes, identify gaps and challenges, learn from clinical experience and improve patient care.
He highlighted India’s growing capabilities in medical expertise and innovation, recalling the country’s role in developing and supplying COVID-19 vaccines to around 100 countries.
Referring to India’s goal of becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047, Radhakrishnan said a developed India must also be a Swasth Bharat. He called for collective efforts to build a healthcare ecosystem where innovation, technology and scientific progress ultimately improve human lives.
India Valves 2026 brings together medical professionals for scientific exchange, training and collaborative research. The India Valve Registry is a collaborative multicentre initiative for secure, de-identified collection of real-world data on transcatheter valve interventions across India.
