Amravati, 2nd Oct: Seven people were killed and 19 others injured after a truck collided with a Bolero pickup van on the Samruddhi Highway in Maharashtra’s Amravati district in the early hours of Friday, police said.

According to a senior police official, the accident occurred around 12:45 am at Channel 97 of the high-speed carriageway near Dhamangaon railway station. The truck crashed into the pickup van, killing five people on the spot and injuring 21 others.

The injured were initially taken to Dhamangaon Rural Hospital for treatment. They were subsequently referred to the Adani Institute of Higher Education and Research in Wardha, formerly known as Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education.

An official at the institute said two of the injured were declared brought dead after being taken to the hospital. One of the injured victims was later shifted to Nagpur for further treatment.

Police said an investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident is underway.
