Lucknow, 17th Oct: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday described people with a “yathasthiti vaadi” mindset, or those unwilling to move beyond the status quo, as the real opponents of India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Speaking at the fifth convocation of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University in Lucknow, Adityanath used a courtroom analogy to explain the challenges facing the Viksit Bharat@2047 vision. He asked graduates to imagine a case numbered 2047, with the development of India as its subject and the country’s 140 crore citizens as petitioners.
The Chief Minister said the respondents in such a case would not be a particular individual or political party, but people who had already concluded that the proposed transformation was impossible.
He challenged the graduates to consider how they would argue their case before people unwilling to listen to reasoning, understand logic or accept evidence. Adityanath said the exercise highlighted the importance of presenting arguments effectively when confronting resistance to change.
Emphasising the role of education and ethical conduct, he cited the Sanskrit verse, “Satyam Vada, Dharmam Chara, Swadhyayanma Pramadah”, urging students to speak the truth, follow their duty and remain committed to learning. He described it as India’s first convocation declaration.
Adityanath also criticised the Congress over the Emergency imposed in 1975, invoking the distinction between the rule of law and the rule of an individual. His remarks placed constitutional principles and accountability alongside his broader message to the graduating law students.
