Gandhinagar, 8th May: Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Friday said the investigation into the crash of Air India Flight AI 171 in Ahmedabad is in its final stages and could be completed within a month.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Aircraft Leasing and Financing Summit at GIFT City in Gandhinagar, the minister said the probe was being conducted independently by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau and the government was providing full support without interfering in the process.
“The crash investigation is in the final stage and could even be completed in a month,” Naidu said.
He stressed that the final report would be prepared with complete transparency because the ill-fated flight carried foreign nationals and would face international scrutiny.
“Anyone can question the report, and it will be up for scrutiny, so this report must be done with transparency,” the minister stated.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau had submitted its preliminary findings to the Ministry of Civil Aviation in July 2025.
Responding to concerns raised by some victims’ families over compensation delays and communication issues, Naidu said the ministry remains in regular contact with Air India
and is closely monitoring the situation.
“We have told the airline that they should interact with the families and clear the compensation,” he said.
The crash occurred on June 12, 2025, when the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operating as Air India Flight AI 171 departed from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport for London Gatwick.
The aircraft crashed less than a minute after takeoff into the densely populated Meghaninagar area, killing 260 people in one of India’s deadliest aviation disasters in recent years.
