Kolkata, 22nd April: Himanta Biswa Sarma intensified the BJP’s campaign in West Bengal, asserting that the party will secure a decisive mandate in the state.

Addressing a rally in Bongaon Dakshin in South 24 Parganas district, Sarma said the BJP is aiming to win 200 seats in the Assembly elections. He also raised concerns over cross-border infiltration, linking it to demographic changes and future security challenges.

The Assam Chief Minister launched a series of attacks on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, criticising her leadership and governance. He also questioned the Trinamool Congress’ political messaging and welfare schemes, alleging lack of job creation and industrial growth.

Sarma urged voters to exercise their franchise freely, stating that there is no need for fear or intimidation during the elections.

Reacting to the remarks, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien said the party would not respond to statements made by BJP leaders, adding that all parties have the democratic right to campaign.

The BJP has deployed senior leaders, including Sarma and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, as part of its campaign strategy in the state.
