CEC interacts with over 500 BLOs and 30 supervisors in Lucknow

Lucknow, 25th Aug: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Tuesday described Booth Level Officers (BLOs) as the “foundational pillars” of India’s democracy during an interaction with BLOs in Lucknow.
More than 500 BLOs and 30 BLO Supervisors from different parts of Uttar Pradesh participated in the interaction.
Gyanesh Kumar said BLOs are the first interface between the Election Commission of India and citizens and play a crucial role in maintaining trust and transparency in the electoral process.
He reiterated that electoral roll preparation and elections are conducted in accordance with the Constitution, law and instructions issued by the Election Commission.
The CEC highlighted the contribution of Uttar Pradesh’s BLOs in the preparation of electoral rolls. Following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in April, more than 13.39 crore electors were included in the state’s final electoral roll.
The exercise was carried out by around 1.77 lakh BLOs, with concurrent participation and scrutiny by more than 5.82 lakh Booth Level Agents appointed by recognised political parties.
During the interaction, BLOs also participated in a question-and-answer session with the CEC, raising issues and seeking clarification on matters related to their responsibilities.
