New Delhi, 19th June: The Ministry of Rural Development will deploy more than 100 Area Officers across the country to support States and Union Territories in the rollout of the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB–G RAM G) Act, 2025, which will come into effect from July 1, 2026.
The Area Officers will act as facilitators and resource persons, working closely with State governments and district administrations to support implementation, build local capacities, promote knowledge sharing and address operational challenges during the transition phase.
The Department of Rural Development has conducted a dedicated orientation programme for these officers, covering the key provisions of the Act, implementation framework, institutional mechanisms, technology-based governance systems and support available to States and districts.
The VB–G RAM G Act aims to transform rural employment by integrating guaranteed wage employment with livelihood promotion, climate resilience, rural infrastructure development and technology-enabled governance. The initiative will be implemented through Viksit Gram Panchayat Plans, GIS-based planning and convergence with various government schemes.
The Centre has undertaken extensive preparations for the nationwide rollout, including approval of an interim Central allocation of ₹95,692 crore for FY 2026-27, onboarding all States and UTs on the DBT-SPARSH platform and completion of e-KYC for nearly 93 per cent of active workers.
The government has also implemented a Face Authentication-based Attendance System nationwide, developed dedicated digital platforms and launched large-scale capacity-building programmes to ensure seamless execution.
According to the Ministry, 27 States and Union Territories have already made budgetary provisions for implementing the Act, while six States and UTs have notified their State Schemes under the VB–G RAM G framework. The remaining States and UTs are in the advanced stages of finalising their schemes.
The deployment of Area Officers is expected to strengthen coordination among stakeholders and provide institutional support for the effective and smooth operationalisation of the new rural employment framework.
