New Delhi, 19th June: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday reviewed a comprehensive plan to empower Station Masters across the Indian Railways network by enhancing their administrative powers, improving career opportunities and introducing modern technologies to ensure safer and more passenger-centric operations.
During a review meeting with senior railway officials, the Minister discussed operational and administrative challenges faced by Station Masters and explored solutions to strengthen their role in managing railway stations, passenger facilities and train operations.
The meeting reviewed proposals to provide greater administrative and operational authority to Station Masters, enabling quicker decision-making and more effective supervision of station infrastructure, staff offices, colonies and related facilities.
To meet rising operational demands, the Railways also discussed deploying additional Station Masters in multi-track and high-density sections and prioritising the filling of vacancies in the cadre.
Emphasis was placed on adopting technology-driven solutions, including mobile app-based paperless working systems and an integrated Station Management System to improve coordination among departments and ensure faster resolution of passenger-related issues.
The Minister also reviewed plans for modernising training through Virtual Reality, simulators and advanced technologies to enhance the skills of Station Masters in handling complex operations and emergency situations.
Proposals to increase financial powers at the station level were also discussed to facilitate faster maintenance works, quicker response to passenger needs and improved overall station management.
The review further focused on improving career progression avenues to provide Station Masters with greater opportunities to move into higher management and leadership roles within Indian Railways.
Safety measures, including better equipment and user-friendly tools, were also reviewed, especially considering the increasing participation of women Station Masters and women Pointsmen in railway operations.
The proposed initiatives aim to strengthen manpower support, technology adoption, training and decision-making capabilities of Station Masters, helping Indian Railways build a more efficient, responsive and future-ready station management system for millions of passengers.
