Govt Extends GSTAT Appeal Filing Deadline to July 31

Centre grants one-month extension after surge in filings and technical issues on GSTAT portal

New Delhi, 30th June: The Government has extended the deadline for filing appeals before the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) to July 31, 2026, providing taxpayers an additional month to submit their appeals.

The extension applies to appeals filed under Section 112(1) read with Section 112(3) of the Goods and Services Tax Act. The earlier deadline, notified on September 17, 2025, was scheduled to expire on June 30, 2026.

According to the government, the decision was taken after receiving representations from stakeholders highlighting technical difficulties caused by heavy traffic on the GSTAT portal as the deadline approached.

Officials noted that nearly 30,000 appeals were filed during the last 15 days, with daily filings peaking at approximately 5,500 appeals, resulting in significant pressure on the online filing system.

The government advised taxpayers to avoid waiting until the last date and complete their appeal filings well in advance to ensure a smooth submission process and avoid last-minute technical issues.
