Kargil War Veteran Alleges Attack by Parking Attendant in Gurugram

Gurugram, 14th Sept: A Kargil War veteran has alleged that he was attacked with an iron rod by a parking attendant at Magnum Global Park in Gurugram, leaving him with serious head injuries and a fractured hand.

Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired), who was part of the Indian Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar during the 1999 Kargil War, made the allegations in a police complaint.

According to Gupta, he had gone to Gonzo restaurant at Magnum Global Park with his family for dinner on Thursday night. At around 8 pm, after dropping his family at the restaurant, he went to look for a parking space.

In his complaint, Gupta alleged that parking staff directed him between the valet area, basement and multilevel parking before eventually refusing to park his vehicle.

Gupta further alleged that when he attempted to reverse his car, a parking attendant struck the windshield. He said that after he stepped out and protested, the attendant allegedly brought an iron rod and struck him twice—once on his hand and once on his head.

Gupta alleged that he was bleeding heavily after the attack and that the accused also threatened to kill him.

He claimed that security personnel and other parking staff did not intervene. Gupta also alleged that although he contacted the police helpline, no police personnel arrived for about half an hour. According to his account, a chef eventually intervened.

Gupta was subsequently taken by ambulance to Medanta Hospital, where he underwent surgery involving plates to repair his elbow injury.

“The attack was sudden and unprovoked. I couldn’t even defend myself,” Gupta said, according to the report.

Gupta has also alleged that the hospital’s medico-legal case (MLC) report did not accurately record his injuries, claiming that it omitted the bleeding and elbow injury. He has sought strict action against the alleged attacker and demanded registration of an FIR for attempted murder and causing grievous hurt.
