New Delhi, 13th Sept: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim won hearts at the BRICS gala dinner in New Delhi after singing Kishore Kumar’s iconic “Khwab Ho Tum Ya Koi Haqeeqat” from the 1965 film Teen Deviyan. The musical moment took place during the BRICS Summit and added a cultural touch to the high-level diplomatic gathering.
Anwar shared a video of the performance on X on September 12 with a caption in Malay that roughly translates to asking his “Guru” for permission to sing. The clip quickly attracted attention online, with users highlighting the Malaysian leader’s affection for Indian music and Bollywood.
The song was composed by S.D. Burman, with lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri and vocals by Kishore Kumar. Anwar’s rendition came during his participation in the 18th BRICS Summit hosted by India.
The Malaysian Prime Minister is known for his appreciation of Indian cinema and music. He had previously sung the same Kishore Kumar classic during an India visit, making his latest performance another notable cultural moment during his India engagements.
Earlier on September 12, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held a bilateral meeting with Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit. The two leaders reviewed cooperation in trade, investment, defence, semiconductors, infrastructure, digital economy, energy, fintech, education, tourism and people-to-people ties.
