PM Modi Calls for Inclusive Global Governance at BRICS
PM urges UN reforms, stronger Global South role and greater support for seafarers

New Delhi, 13th Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the BRICS session on “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism” on September 12 during the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
Addressing the session, Modi said the Global South remains at the front row of global crises but at the back row of decision-making. He called for transforming the existing “pyramid of privilege” into a “platform of partnership”.
The Prime Minister stressed that global governance must reflect present-day realities and called for greater representation of developing countries in international institutions, including the United Nations Security Council.
Modi also called for the Global South to move from being a rule-taker to a rule-shaper. He proposed using BRICS to provide young diplomats and policymakers from developing countries with negotiation skills, practical training and legal expertise.
Highlighting the contribution of seafarers to global trade, Modi said they often lack adequate support during crises and proposed establishing a Seafarers Emergency Support Network.
Concluding his remarks, the Prime Minister said that as the future is shared, the right to shape that future must also be shared, calling for a shift “from voice to impact, from privilege to partnership.”
The session concluded with the adoption of the New Delhi BRICS Leaders’ Declaration, setting out shared priorities and the future direction of BRICS cooperation.
