Mumbai, 27th June: The Congress on Saturday appointed Lok Sabha MP B. Manickam Tagore as the new president of the Tamil Nadu Pradesh Congress Committee (TNCC), replacing K. Selvaperunthagai with immediate effect.

Announcing the decision, AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal said Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had approved Tagore’s appointment as the state unit chief.

The party also acknowledged the contributions of outgoing TNCC president K. Selvaperunthagai during his tenure.

A four-time Lok Sabha MP from Virudhunagar, Tagore currently serves as the Congress whip in the Lok Sabha. He is also the AICC in-charge of party affairs in Andhra Pradesh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The leadership change comes as the Congress remains an alliance partner of the ruling TVK government in Tamil Nadu, led by Chief Minister Vijay.
