Mumbai, 8th July: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has notified Navi Mumbai Airport as an authorised port for the import of drugs under the Drugs Rules, 1945, expanding India’s pharmaceutical logistics network and facilitating smoother trade.
The ministry said the amendment to Rule 43A was made after consultation with the Drugs Technical Advisory Board under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
With the latest notification, Navi Mumbai Airport has been added to the list of designated airports through which medicines can be imported into the country. The total number of notified ports of entry—covering air, sea, rail and road routes—has now increased to 42.
The government said the move will improve the movement of pharmaceutical consignments, strengthen logistics infrastructure and provide importers with greater flexibility by offering an additional gateway for importing medicines.
The ministry added that the amendment aligns with the government’s efforts to strengthen the regulatory framework, promote ease of doing business and ensure effective oversight of imported drugs.
