New Delhi, 3rd June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated D.K. Shivakumar on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka and extended his best wishes for a successful tenure.

In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister said the Central Government would work closely with the Karnataka government for the welfare and development of the state’s people.

“Congratulations to Shri DK Shivakumar Ji on taking oath as Chief Minister of Karnataka. Best wishes for his tenure. The Centre will work closely with the Karnataka Government for the welfare of the people,” Modi said.

The message came shortly after Shivakumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister at a ceremony in Bengaluru attended by senior Congress leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Shivakumar assumed office after a prolonged leadership transition within the Congress in Karnataka, succeeding veteran leader Siddaramaiah.

The Prime Minister’s remarks underscore the Centre’s commitment to maintaining cooperative federal relations with the newly formed Karnataka government despite political differences between the BJP-led Centre and the Congress-led state administration.

Political observers noted that the assurance of cooperation from the Centre is significant as Karnataka pursues key development, infrastructure and welfare initiatives that require coordination with the Union Government.

Shivakumar, one of the Congress party’s most prominent leaders in southern India, took charge along with a 13-member Council of Ministers and Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara.

The new Karnataka government is expected to focus on governance, welfare programmes and implementation of its electoral commitments while preparing for future political challenges in the state.
