Prime Minister recalls literary icon's role in inspiring patriotism, marks 150 years of 'Vande Mataram'

New Delhi, 26th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid homage to eminent writer and nationalist Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay on his birth anniversary, remembering him as a literary giant whose works awakened patriotism and cultural pride among generations of Indians.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s rich literary legacy continues to inspire minds and strengthen the nation’s collective resolve towards nation-building.

Highlighting the significance of the year, Modi noted that India is commemorating the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, the iconic patriotic song composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. He said the composition became one of the most enduring inspirations for India’s freedom movement and continues to hold a special place in the nation’s consciousness.

“Tributes to the great Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay on his Jayanti. A towering literary luminary, his writings awakened a spirit of patriotism and cultural pride among generations of Indians. Through Vande Mataram, he gifted the freedom movement and our nation one of its most enduring inspirations,” the Prime Minister said.
