New Delhi, 22nd Oct: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on October 23 at 11 am. He will also address the gathering at the three-day event, scheduled to run until October 25.
The global summit is expected to bring together more than 9,000 participants from India and abroad. It marks the culmination of year-long celebrations commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Chinmaya Mission, founded by Swami Chinmayananda in 1951.
The Mission has worked to make the teachings of Vedanta and the Bhagavad Gita accessible to people worldwide, while expanding its activities across spiritual education, cultural preservation, youth empowerment and community service.
The anniversary celebrations began last year with the release of a Tamil versification of the Bhagavad Gita by the Prime Minister at Gangaikonda Cholapuram in Tamil Nadu. The work was produced by the Chinmaya Mission, with music composed by Ilaiyaraaja.
Several initiatives were organised during the year, including mass havans at multiple locations and the consecration of the Maa Soundarya Chinmayi Temple in Tripura. Under the Chinmaya Gita Samarpanam initiative, more than one lakh people worldwide chanted the 15th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita together online.
Another key initiative, Gita Panchamrit, focused on five selected verses from the Bhagavad Gita. Meanwhile, 15 young members of Chinmaya Yuva Kendra undertook the Chinmaya Amrit Yatra, travelling more than 40,000 kilometres across the country to spread the message of the Gita.
