Greater Noida, 30th Oct: The PNB Greater Noida branch has acknowledged complaints of financial irregularities involving customers’ savings and fixed deposit accounts, three days after several farmers alleged that their deposits had disappeared. The bank said it has settled three claims amounting to ₹43 lakh so far and assured customers that all genuine claims would be honoured.
In a statement, Punjab National Bank said it had taken serious cognisance of complaints concerning certain customer Fixed and Savings Bank deposit accounts at its Greater Noida branch. The matter is being examined on priority, and the bank is cooperating with the authorities to verify the facts and assess the reported discrepancies.
PNB said it follows a zero-tolerance policy towards fraud, financial irregularities and misconduct, adding that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible under applicable rules and procedures. It also said it was strengthening internal controls and monitoring mechanisms to prevent similar incidents.
At least 28 people, most of them farmers who had sold land for the construction of Jewar Airport, have approached the Gautam Buddha Nagar Police, alleging that their savings worth lakhs and crores had gone missing from their bank accounts and fixed deposits.
The complainants claimed they had neither received transaction alerts nor signed any documents authorising the withdrawals. Some said they discovered the missing money only after checking their transaction records.
Police registered an FIR on Wednesday at Beta-02 police station against unidentified bank employees under Section 316(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for alleged criminal breach of trust. Investigators are examining whether the money was stolen, siphoned off or lost due to other financial irregularities.
According to police officials, around 18 people initially reported losses of approximately ₹16 crore. Ten more individuals subsequently came forward, reporting an additional loss of around ₹4 crore.
Protests Continue
Aggrieved farmers have continued their protest outside the Greater Noida PNB branch for the fourth consecutive day. Many said they had saved the money for building homes or arranging their children’s weddings.
The protesters said they would continue their agitation until their concerns were addressed. Police are collecting evidence as more customers come forward with complaints, while the bank is also conducting an internal inquiry.
