Shivraj Chouhan to Chair Eastern Agri Conference in Odisha
Bhubaneswar meet to focus on farm reforms, natural farming and farmer welfare

Bhubaneswar, 18th May: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will chair the Eastern Regional Agriculture Conference in Bhubaneswar on May 19 to discuss agricultural development, farmer welfare and coordination between the Centre and states.
The conference, organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, will also be attended by Mohan Charan Majhi along with agriculture ministers, senior officials, scientists, farmer representatives, startups, banks and Farmer Producer Organisations from various states.
According to the ministry, the conference aims to strengthen the agriculture sector, improve farmers’ incomes and review the progress of key agricultural schemes and programmes.
Detailed discussions are expected on issues including the farmer registry, horticulture opportunities, self-reliance in pulses production, PM-AASHA and the National Mission on Edible Oils–Oilseeds.
The conference will also deliberate on the National Mission on Natural Farming, farm credit and issues related to the Kisan Credit Card scheme.
Officials said special focus would be laid on preventing fake pesticides and fertilisers, checking black marketing and promoting balanced and alternative fertiliser use.
Several states are also expected to present successful agricultural models and innovations during the conference.
Odisha will present its agricultural extension initiatives, while West Bengal will share best practices in seed production.
Jharkhand is expected to showcase experiences related to FPO-led value chains and agricultural startups, while Bihar will present its maize production and marketing initiatives.
The ministry said the conference would provide a platform for identifying solutions to agricultural challenges and formulating future strategies for sustainable farm sector development.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is also scheduled to address the media after the conference.
