Union Minister and Karnataka MP Shobha Karandlaje is facing opposition within her constituency from a faction of local BJP workers, who are urging the party leadership to deny her a ticket in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

A group of BJP workers from the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency recently penned a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party chief JP Nadda, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, expressing their issues about granting a ticket to Shobha Karandlaje in the forthcoming general elections. They have advocated for the nomination of a new candidate from the region.

The dissent among BJP workers stems from dissatisfaction with Karandlaje’s performance during her tenure. As a prominent Vokkaliga leader, Karandlaje currently holds responsibility for two ministries – agriculture and food processing industries.

Tensions escalated last week when Karandlaje faced criticism from the fishermen’s union in her constituency during a meeting regarding delays in the completion of a stretch of highway from Malpe to Udupi. A video from the meeting, which subsequently went viral on social media, captured union members questioning the minister about the prolonged delay in the construction of the three-and-a-half-kilometer highway stretch.

Local leaders expressed frustration, demanding accountability from Karandlaje for her purported lack of action regarding the dilapidated condition of the highway. They called for transparency and tangible measures to address the pressing issues faced by residents, highlighting the frequency of accidents on the neglected stretch of road.

The emergence of opposition within her own party and the public scrutiny of her performance signal challenges ahead for Shobha Karandlaje as she navigates the complexities of local politics in her constituency.
