India, Austria Sign Key MoUs During Chancellor Stocker’s Visit

Agreements span defence, film, food safety, startups and education cooperation

New Delhi, 16th April: 
India and Austria signed a series of agreements and announced multiple initiatives during the visit of Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker, strengthening bilateral cooperation across sectors including defence, trade, technology and education.

Key Agreements Signed

Among the major outcomes, both sides signed an agreement on audiovisual co-production to promote collaboration between film industries and cultural exchanges.

A joint announcement was made to establish a Fast Track Mechanism aimed at resolving issues faced by investors and improving ease of doing business between the two countries.

A Letter of Intent (LoI) on military cooperation was also signed, providing a framework for defence collaboration, technology partnership, and training.

Focus on Security and Food Safety

India and Austria agreed to enhance counter-terrorism cooperation through a Joint Working Group, while another MoU between Austria’s AGES and India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority of India will strengthen food safety standards, scientific exchange and regulatory practices.

Skills and Education Cooperation

A joint LoI on vocational training and skills development aims to promote apprenticeships and recognition of qualifications between the two nations.

Additionally, both countries agreed to launch a structured bilateral dialogue on education cooperation and expand academic exchanges.

Major Announcements

The visit also saw several key announcements, including:

  • Renewal of technical cooperation in road infrastructure
  • Expansion of startup collaboration under the India-Austria Startup Bridge
  • Launch of an institutional cybersecurity dialogue
  • Partnership in UN peacekeeping training
  • Plan to hold a bilateral space industry seminar in Vienna in 2026
  • Operationalisation of a Working Holiday Programme
Boost to High-Tech and Research

High-technology cooperation has been identified as a central pillar of the enhanced partnership, with joint research projects planned in areas such as quantum technology, machine learning, material science and wastewater treatment.

Austria also announced a “Focus India” initiative by leading technical universities to boost academic and research collaboration, including a dedicated portal for Indian students.
