Tarun Chugh, Satish Poonia Among BJP’s Rajya Sabha Picks

Party announces candidates from six states, names Debashish Samantaray for Odisha bypoll.

New Delhi, 4th June: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha biennial elections and a by-election to the Upper House from Odisha.

The party’s Central Election Committee approved the names of candidates from Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur and Rajasthan for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections scheduled in 2026.

According to the list released by the BJP, Shri Tai Tagak has been nominated from Arunachal Pradesh.

From Gujarat, the party has fielded Rajubhai Shukla, Mukeshbhai Rathwa, Mansingh Parmar and Jitendra Meghjibhai Kanzariya.

BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh has been nominated from Madhya Pradesh along with Rajneesh Agrawal.

In Manipur, the party has named Smt. A. Sharda Devi as its candidate.

For Rajasthan, the BJP has selected Dr. Alka Gurjar and former Rajasthan BJP chief Dr. Satish Poonia as its nominees.

The party also announced Debashish Samantaray as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-election from Odisha.

The announcement comes ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections for 27 seats across several states, for which the Election Commission has already initiated the nomination process.

The last date for filing nominations is June 8, while scrutiny of nominations will take place on June 9. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until June 11. Polling, if required, will be held on June 18.

The BJP’s candidate list reflects a mix of experienced organisational leaders, regional representatives and prominent political figures as the party seeks to retain and strengthen its presence in the Upper House of Parliament.
