Bhalki, 22nd April: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday inaugurated the Amrit Mahotsava celebrations marking the 75th birth anniversary of Pujya Dr. Basavalinga Pattadevaru Mahaswamiji at Sri Channabasavashram in Karnataka’s Bidar district.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice President described the region as a historic centre of spiritual thought and reform, recalling the legacy of Basavanna and his message of equality and social justice.

Radhakrishnan praised the contributions of Dr. Basavalinga Pattadevaru Mahaswamiji, highlighting his work in providing shelter, education and dignity to hundreds of orphaned children and building a wide educational network serving thousands of students.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi,” the Vice President said India’s development must go hand in hand with preservation of its cultural and spiritual heritage.

He noted that India is emerging as a technologically advanced and economically strong nation while remaining rooted in its civilisational values.

Highlighting the role of women, he said “Nari Shakti” is central to nation-building, adding that women bring empathy and strength to leadership and drive social progress.

The Vice President urged people to draw inspiration from spiritual teachings and work towards building a society based on equality, compassion and dharma.

Referring to recent political debates, he remarked on the need for clarity in distinguishing between terrorism and those who support it.

Several leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, were present at the event.
