Kolkata, 4th May: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday said the Bharatiya Janata Party’s surge in West Bengal Assembly elections was driven by public anger against alleged misgovernance, corruption and law-and-order failures under the Trinamool Congress.
As the Bharatiya Janata Party crossed the majority mark in early counting trends, Pradhan asserted that women voters played a decisive role in shifting the electoral outcome.
He claimed that issues such as alleged atrocities, including high-profile cases, and controversies surrounding governance had influenced voter sentiment.
Pradhan also pointed to allegations of corruption in recruitment processes and the recovery of large sums of cash in connection with the school jobs scam, saying these incidents eroded public trust.
He added that unemployment concerns among youth and dissatisfaction with governance contributed to the electoral shift.
The Union Minister said the verdict reflects a “well-thought-out” response by voters and described the outcome as the beginning of a major political transformation in the state.
West Bengal, long governed by Mamata Banerjee since 2011, appears poised for a significant political transition as counting trends continue to evolve.
The results are expected to reshape the state’s political landscape, marking a potential end to over a decade of Trinamool dominance.
