Brisbane, 21st May: The 9th Australian National Hindu Conference concluded successfully in Brisbane, bringing together Hindu leaders, policymakers, academics, youth representatives and community organisations from across Australia to discuss the growing contribution of Hindu Australians to national development.
The conference, themed “Building Communities, Powering Australia,” was hosted by the Queensland chapter of Vishva Hindu Parishad of Australia at the VOCO Hotel in Brisbane on May 9. Around 200 delegates from different Australian states and territories participated in the event.
Organisers said the conference served as a national platform to discuss the role of Hindu Australians in sectors including science and technology, healthcare, public administration, politics and economic development.
The event received participation and support from federal, state and local government representatives. Queensland Minister for Women and Multiculturalism Fiona Simpson delivered a message on behalf of Queensland Premier David Crisafulli during the inaugural session.
Among those present were Senator Paul Scarr, Queensland MPs Corrine McMillan, Margaret Nightingale and Peter Russo. Congratulatory messages from the mayors of Brisbane, Ipswich and Logan were also read during the inaugural session.
Senator Paul Scarr officially released the first copy of the conference souvenir. The event also featured participation from Swami Atmeshananda and representatives of temples, Hindu organisations, language schools, youth groups and cultural associations.
The conference opened with a welcome address by Subramanian Ramamoorthy, National President of VHP Australia, followed by a keynote address from Mano Krishnamohan.
In her address, Dr Mano Krishnamohan highlighted the rapid growth of Hindu Dharma in Australia and referred to Australian Bureau of Statistics data from 2021 showing Hinduism as the country’s fastest-growing religion. She said Hindu Australians have strong representation in professional sectors and continue contributing to Australia’s economic, social and cultural development.
The conference also featured a presentation by Akila Ramarathinam titled “Vishva Hindu Parishad of Australia in Service of Society.”
Panel discussions and deliberations were conducted under six major themes, including government partnerships, Hindu youth leadership, media and academia participation, representation in public institutions and the role of temples and cultural organisations in serving society.
The organisers thanked delegates, speakers, volunteers and community groups for contributing to the conference and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Australia’s multicultural and socially cohesive society.
