New Delhi, 24th May: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described India and the United States as “strategic partners” whose cooperation extends beyond regional boundaries and into multiple parts of the world.
Rubio made the remarks during delegation-level talks with S. Jaishankar in New Delhi as part of his four-day visit to India.
“The US and India aren’t just allies. We are strategic allies and that’s of critical importance,” Rubio said during the meeting.
He stressed that the India-US partnership stands apart because it is not limited to one geographical region and instead creates opportunities for cooperation globally.
Rubio said both countries work together on a variety of issues and can deepen engagement in different regions, including the Western Hemisphere.
The US Secretary of State also referred to discussions held with Jaishankar during a dinner interaction on Friday evening.
The visit comes amid growing strategic cooperation between India and United States in areas such as defence, trade, emerging technologies, energy security and Indo-Pacific coordination.
India and the US have strengthened bilateral ties in recent years through initiatives linked to semiconductors, artificial intelligence, critical technologies and supply chain resilience.
The Rubio-Jaishankar talks are also expected to focus on regional security issues and evolving global geopolitical developments.
