Indore, 16th June: Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav has written to Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta seeking initiation of criminal contempt proceedings against senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh under Section 15(1)(b) of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971.
In his letter, Bhargav alleged that certain statements attributed to Digvijaya Singh in a video circulating publicly amounted to an attack on the dignity and authority of the Supreme Court and sought the Solicitor General’s consent for initiating proceedings.
The letter stated that the remarks allegedly attract provisions related to criminal contempt under the Act and argued that such statements could undermine public confidence in the judiciary.
Bhargav requested the Solicitor General to examine the matter and take appropriate action as per law. The letter also stated that the issue concerns the dignity, authority and independence of the Supreme Court.
