New Delhi, 27th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday departed for a three-day State Visit to Seychelles, where he will participate as the Guest of Honour at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the country’s National Day and hold high-level talks to strengthen bilateral and maritime cooperation.

The visit is being undertaken at the invitation of Seychelles President Dr Patrick Herminie and coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles.

In his departure statement, Modi described Seychelles as a valued maritime neighbour and a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and its shared commitment to the Global South. He said the visit would build on the momentum generated by President Herminie’s State Visit to India in February this year.

The Prime Minister said discussions with the Seychelles leadership would focus on expanding the longstanding partnership, enhancing maritime security and promoting peace, stability and prosperity across the Indian Ocean region.

During the visit, Modi will also become the first Indian Prime Minister to address the National Assembly of Seychelles, calling it a historic opportunity that reflects the democratic values and parliamentary traditions shared by the two countries.

He is also scheduled to interact with members of the Indian community in Seychelles, acknowledging their contribution in strengthening people-to-people ties and serving as a living bridge between the two nations.

Expressing confidence in the outcome of the visit, the Prime Minister said it would further deepen bilateral relations, enhance maritime cooperation and advance the shared vision of a secure, peaceful and prosperous Indian Ocean region.
