New Delhi, 30th June: The Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB-G RAM G] Act, 2025 will come into force across rural India from July 1, providing a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment for every eligible rural household and marking a major overhaul of the country’s rural employment framework.

Ahead of the nationwide rollout, Union Rural Development and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the Centre and states have completed all administrative, financial and technical preparations to ensure a seamless transition.

“Our priority is to ensure that no eligible rural worker remains without work even for a single day. The enhanced guarantee of 125 days of wage employment will strengthen rural livelihoods, create durable community assets and accelerate the vision of Viksit Bharat,” Chouhan said.

The new legislation increases the employment guarantee from 100 days to 125 days while placing greater emphasis on sustainable livelihood creation, durable rural infrastructure and participatory village development.

To facilitate uninterrupted implementation, the Centre has made an interim allocation of ₹95,692.31 crore to states and Union Territories. The allocation is intended to ensure timely wage payments, continuation of ongoing works and a smooth transition from the existing employment programme.

The government said ongoing projects will continue without disruption, while existing e-KYC verified job cards will remain valid until new Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Cards are issued, ensuring uninterrupted access to employment and wage payments.

The Act places Gram Panchayats at the centre of implementation with increased focus on water conservation, natural resource management, agriculture and allied activities, rural infrastructure development, women’s empowerment through Self Help Groups, convergence with flagship rural schemes and technology-enabled transparent governance.

According to the Ministry of Rural Development, the legislation aims to strengthen village economies, generate sustainable livelihoods and improve the quality of life in rural areas as part of the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision.

The Ministry said the recently concluded Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Sammelan reaffirmed states’ preparedness for implementation. Rural Development Ministers from 29 States and Union Territories reviewed the rollout plans, with 24 states already notifying the VB-G RAM G State Scheme, while all participating states confirmed their readiness to operationalise the Act from July 1.

The national launch of the Mission will be held on July 2 at Mukkavaripalli village in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati district. Chouhan will formally launch the programme in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Union Ministers of State Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani and Kamlesh Paswan, along with other dignitaries.

During the launch event, beneficiaries will receive Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Cards, an awareness film on the Mission will be screened, and a Compendium of Op-Ed Articles on the initiative will also be released.
