Gandhinagar, 20th Aug: India successfully hosted the BRICS Youth Council Meeting and the BRICS Youth Summit 2026 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, under its BRICS Chairship, bringing together youth delegates, ministers and officials from BRICS member and partner countries to strengthen cooperation on issues of common interest.
Organised by the Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the event was held under India’s BRICS Chairship theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” with a focus on a people-centric and humanity-first approach to youth engagement.
The inaugural session was attended by Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse, Acting Chief Secretary of Gujarat Dr. Anju Sharma, Additional Secretary, Department of Youth Affairs, Nitesh Kumar Mishra, and heads of delegation from BRICS member and partner countries.
The BRICS Youth Summit served as a platform for young leaders to exchange ideas and collaborate on key issues affecting youth. Thematic discussions focused on Education, Entrepreneurship and Future Readiness; Inclusive Development and Youth Wellbeing; Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility; and People-to-People Cooperation and Youth Engagement.
Alongside the summit, the BRICS Youth Council Meeting deliberated on the Draft Joint Declaration and the BRICS Youth Cooperation Framework, incorporating national experiences, best practices and recommendations shared by participating countries.
According to the government, the discussions helped build consensus ahead of the BRICS Youth Ministers’ Meeting, scheduled to be held on August 22, 2026, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
Delegates also experienced Gujarat’s cultural heritage through traditional cuisine and cultural interactions, promoting stronger people-to-people ties and mutual understanding among participating nations.
The government said the successful organisation of the BRICS Youth Council Meeting and Youth Summit reaffirmed India’s commitment to expanding youth-led cooperation within BRICS and providing young people with meaningful opportunities to contribute to the group’s shared development priorities.
